Symbian is the best OS for smartphones in the market today. Though there are many operating systems for mobile phones the one that is most loved among smartphone lovers is Symbian. First reason, I would say is for its success is the support for Java and its own native platform. Today Symbian OS has lots application available. Considering the speed, most Symbian phones become slow after a few months of use or often hangs if not maintained properly. Now here are 10 tips for Symbian phone users to keep their phones at top speed.
1) Theme and Wallpaper and ringtone: The best option to keep your phone at top speed is keeping the default theme. If you are keen in having another theme, then you must copy the theme to phone memory before you use. This will make some difference. Keeping a regularly used image or other resources in the memory card is not advisable. So keep your current theme, wallpaper and ringtone on the phone memory.
2) Applications and Games: Which ever it is, an application or a game, if you love it and use it so often then it is again advisable to install it on the phone memory. Dont install applications that keep them alive in the background. For example, having a video ringtone or a black list will often hang when receiving a call. So avoid applications that always runs in the background or interacts closely with the OS features.
3) Freeing the memory: Every 3 days clean up both your phone memory and memory stick. Keeping too many files in the memory stick or having a high capacity memory card will often make the device booting slow.
4) Close used applications: This is the biggest mistake many people do with their phones that makes it really slow. While you are closing an application or a game, just pressing red button will hang the application or will make it run in the background. So Often press hold the Menu button and check if there is any unwanted application running in the background. And if it does press [c] to close it.
5) Sim Directory: Always have a copy of your contacts in the phone memory and dont often use your sim card contacts.
6) Jar or SIS: Now that we have 2 platforms supported by Symbian OS, and which one is good to keep the OS faster. Having a Jar file will keep lesser footprints on the OS and thus keeps the OS clean. Thought the application is bit slow in jar when compared to sis, we are keen in keeping the OS safe. Installing sis files are similar to installing an application in Windows. You need some good knowledge to remove footprints of an application. But the jar files are packed in a container and is completely deleted when you uninstall it.
7) Bluetooth: Keeping your bluetooth ON is again not advisable for 2 reasons, one is why give extra load to the mother board while you dont really use it. The other one is keep away from Virus.
8.) Antivirus: My personal advice is not to install any antivirus but this will need more knowledge on what to accept via Bluetooth and what not to. If you switch on your Bluetooth when you are in the public, I am sure you will receive atleast one virus.
